Common equine emergencies

If your horse shows any of these signs, call immediately:
  • Colic – Not eating, rolling, lethargy, belly pain
  • Eye issues – Swelling, tearing, squinting, cloudiness
  • Heat exhaustion – Heavy sweating, rapid heart rate, high temp
  • Severe lameness – Toe-touching or non-weight-bearing
  • Grain overload – Risk of colic, laminitis, toxaemia
  • Deep wounds or punctures
  • Tying up – Muscle stiffness, sweating, dark urine
  • Allergic reactions – Hives, facial swelling, breathing issues
  • Foaling emergencies – Red bag, delayed birth, malposition, retained placenta.
