Orthopaedic surgery
Orthopaedic surgery is higher risk than routine procedures because it is structural and requires heavy-duty tools. Franklin Vets has invested in state-of-the-art equipment to deliver safe, advanced care.
We have orthopaedic power tools, dedicated positive-pressure operating theatres, DR digital radiography, and a full in-house IDEXX laboratory. This setup supports a wide range of treatments for fractures, dislocations, tendon and ligament injuries, including stifle (knee) surgery for cruciate injuries and patellar luxation, OCD surgery, and fracture repairs.
Your pet will be cared for by experienced veterinarians and our fully trained nursing team, who monitor comfort and recovery throughout. Pain control is a priority; most patients remain on continuous, analgesic infusions while in our clinic.
Please call Franklin Vets on 09 238 7486 or email [email protected] to talk about transferring your patient to our clinic for assessment and treatment.
We will need to review your pet's medical record (including any relevant laboratory results and radiographs) before your appointment, so please ask your vet to transfer these directly to us.
Cruciate ligament injury
Injuries to the cranial cruciate ligament in dogs are the most common orthopaedic problem found in dogs.

Soft tissue surgery
This involves operating on the body's soft organs and tissues. There is less of a structural component to this area of surgery, so there is less need for the heavy-duty tools and more need for gentle handling of delicate tissue. Proper, careful surgical planning, followed by gentle execution of the plan, is critically important in all surgery.
Our in-house diagnostic laboratory enables very rapid turnaround of the majority of blood and urine tests.
We offer a range of advanced surgical procedures, including Total Ear Canal Ablation with Latera Bulla Osteotomy (TECA-LBO), cancer surgery, wound management, perineal urethrostomy, hernia repair, gastrointestinal surgery, GDV, BOAS surgery for brachycephalics, salivary gland removal, and more.
Your pets will receive professional care from our skilled veterinarians. Our fully trained staff will monitor your pet’s performance and comfort throughout the surgery with our modern equipment.
